‘xx, Lotte: die Leiden der jungen Charlotte’ is a contemporary feminist reply to the role of women in classical literature, particularly to Goethe’s ‘die Leiden des jungen Werther’.

Charlotte, no longer a lifeless object of love. but a real person, finally shares her story.

Through 17 Schubert-Salon style songs, as rooted in the modern harmonies of blues, rock, and Arabic music as they are in the Western Classical tradition, writer-singer Elea Bekkers and composer-pianist Christian Chamoun give Charlotte a voice.

Pirandello once wrote that real people come and go and change with the world around them, while a character is trapped in eternity just as they are. Elea and Christian hope to give Charlotte a more fitting and genuine home where she may comfortably live out her endless days.
